After living in New York City I wondered what could be next for me in terms of fun and culture filled cities. I wanted to improve my Spanish, so Latin America was naturally a point of interest. I ended up in Bogota by chance, attracted by a job offer. And now Bogota is my home. I take such pride in sharing this city with my friends and their friends (and their friends) when they come to visit, which is becoming more frequent with each passing month. Without the right tips to get your feet wet, it might feel like there is nothing for you in Bogota-- but it’s not true. My hope is that you will use this site as base to find your own way in this city, and that your presence will make it a better place.

I am a 36 year-old woman who moved to Bogota 6 years ago. I came here with a two-year contract at an American institution, and have ended up extending indefinitely. Why? Because I fell in love. With everything. Bogota was a BIG change from Montreal, where I had lived the past 6 years.  I arrived here with “por favor” and “gracias” as my only Spanish vocabulary bank. Big trouble… Oh well, I managed to get around with sign language until I got some private lessons. At least, after that, I could order food and get around the city in a taxi.

It took me a little more than 1 year to get to know the local life and I think this is the biggest challenge of all. Bogota is very different that way as the tourism industry has not taken over yet, and that's why we wanted to share with you what we took years to discover. Most of what we are sharing with you here is not in travel books and will make your experience here a completely different one.
